Docent Training 2018

at La Purisima Mission State Historic Park

Docent Training

Do you love history, crafting, working with others, and meeting visitors from around the globe?  Then consider becoming a docent at the most restored California Mission right in your own backyard!  La Purisima Mission State Historic Park will be offering the 2018 Docent Training program in January.

The program is an 8-week course to prepare participants for docent work in the areas of living history demonstrations, tour guiding, and other jobs working with the public or behind the scenes.  The training class will cover Chumash history, Spanish colonial and mission history as well as hands on demonstrations of mission crafts and the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Graduates of the course will promote to the role of docent, and then be able to participate in the many living history and youth education programs that take place at California’s most fully restored mission.  Minor participants under 18 years of age must attend with parent or guardian.  Children must be at least 8 years old to attend space is limited.  If you are interested in becoming a La Purisima Mission Docent, please come to the meeting below to learn more about our training to see if it is right for you:

About Prelado

La Purisima Mission is the jewel of the California Missions and California State Parks. This precious jewel is financially supported by the non-profit organization Prelado de los Tesoros de La Purisima, which translates to just that – "Keepers of the treasure of La Purisima." Prelado's support provides La Purisima Mission State Historic Park with animal care, money for enrichment programs, docent training, building repairs and many other aspects of operating this historic park. Prelado also plays an important role in keeping La Purisima Mission open to the public through letter writing campaigns and other park supporting events.
